Dye sublimation is a process that uses heat to transfer dye into fabric to produce a photo-quality image that will not wash out. The dye bonds with the polyester fibers rather than being printed onto the fabric via pigment inks (screen printing).
Polyester vs vinyl backdrops:
Polyester backdrops are resistant to wear, and tears whereas vinyl are not. Glossy vinyl may reflect the camera flash, but the polyester fabrics will absorb it rather than reflecting. However, vinyl, made from salt and ethylene, is stronger, sturdier and more water-resistant than polyester. Vinyl is also more environmentally friendly than polyester. Some vinyl tarps are also coated with polyester for added strength and resistance to the elements.
How do you clean polyester backdrops?
Polyester Fabric can be machine washed with cold water on gentle cycle with MILD soap. Air dry fabric on a backdrop stand or lay flat. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY, BLEACH OR IRON polyester fabric backdrops. Fabric must be completely dry prior to storing.
